Wednesday 15th October
Managed to get a couple of OSB boards up inside house before the rest of the replacement battens came and also the bumper lift.
Loaded several batches of roof tiles onto the bumper to try it out. This was of course once we had got the thing sorted out. The instructions were so faint you couldn't read them and the pictures almost non - existent. Thanks to Brian next door (he used to be a roofer) we sorted the contraption out and then got started. It needs one person to stand on the bar whilst the whole thing is being tilted upwards to open the conveyor belt - I just wish the camera had been in action to see me doing what can only be described as a ballet action while trying desperately not to fall off!
Yes we are officially mental!!!!!!
The roof tiles come in batches of 16 and are quite heavy so we were exhausted by the end of the day - especially as we had another downpour which meant we had to put back some of the tarpaulins and put more plastic over the windows as the rain was coming in horizontally!
Thursday 16th October
Drizzly morning led to a nice warm day - well most of it anyway. Alan and Kevin set to putting more battens on roof ready for tiling. We then had the unenviable task of putting the packs of roof tiles into wheelbarrows and taking them round the rear - loading onto a pallet and then transferring them onto the bumper - good game!
With the aid of the bumper lift we managed to get several thousand tiles up onto the roof as you can see. Then guess what - yes heavy downpour again so Alan and Kevin packed up early - not a lot you can do in this weather.
